I have been trading for over 30 years and have made money and lost money trading options. I was exposed to credit spreads in the mid 1990's and although I understood the concept, I didn't have a set of "rules" to govern my trades. Lee's book provides a set of rules in a simple and understandable fashion which if followed, will lead to profitable trades. The concept that 80% to 90% of options expire worthless but that someone is making money is absolutely true. The seller of those options is making the money 80% to 90% of the time and the basis for credit spreads and iron condors is selling options. I have used the system for a short period of time in a small account that I have with Ameritrade and it has been successful. I am so confident that it will be successful over the long term that I am transferring all my IRA accounts into my Ameritrade account to begin using Lee's system as soon as possible.
Somebody here said the book was overpriced. I totally disagree. It's less than $100. Where would you find a complete training course on how to make consistent living working a couple of hours a day from your home for that price?The book in itself teaches you a strategy about trading options that I have seen before, so not really a new "fad" but a proven system that makes a lot of smart people happy today and have in the past. However, what's really different from the other material I have seen around is that this guy takes a "grandfather" approach and explains everything in plain words, slowly, repeating key concepts many times so that you, the inexperienced guy can finally understand it. I have some background in trading and options and this gentleman made it even easier for me to sum-it-all-up and finally get it. I just hope he will hang around for long enough so all of us can make some nice money with his newsletter.
I liked the book very much because it describes a very conservative and safe method for entering into both Bull Put and Bear Call credit spreads on several well known underlying stocks, indexes and ETFs. If the entry rules described in the book and "white papers" written by its author are followed to the letter, the system allows the average investor or trader to attain a high percentage of successful credit spreads trades month after month, with a minimum of 0.25 credit points per spread contract and in fact, it is often possible to double this minimum credit with the same margin requirement by combining a Bull Put with a Bear Call spread on the same underlying in a strategy known as an "Iron Condor". Lee even offers a comparatively low cost monthly subscription ( for less than the cost of the "proverbial daily cup of coffee") where he provides a long and detailed list of trading opportunities using his method that are based on every Friday's closing prices on the selected underlying stocks, indexes or ETFs.
Skip this book--it is shallow in the info it provides. Instead buy "Profiting with Iron Condors Options" by Michael Hanania Benklifa. It is a far superior book. I am a student of these brilliant people: Natenberg, McMillan, Cottle, and Sinclair. The four guys, as any one knows, have written amazing books. Also, Finberg is unavailable as far as I could tell--try getting him on the phone--I couldn't--he even stopped answering my emails?? But he will certainly take your PayPal payment for a monthly service that has no clarity what exactly he provides. I am an independent unknown daily trader and have no financial affiliation with any of these people.
I found the book very helpful. The only caveat is that there is a danger in using iron condors on individual stocks even if you carefully avoid earnings season. There can be news at ANY time that will cause the stock to move rapidly. For example, I made a trade on an oil related stock (refiner I believe) as suggested and within a few hours the Obama administration announced it would soon be OK to export US oil products (not the crude) and the stock plummeted and wiped out the trade and then some. In other words...... weight your trades more heavily in the indexes the Lee suggests.One of the best things is Lee does is that the trades are conservative.... you won't get rich overnight but if you take a diversified conservative approach to the type of trades Lee suggests you will make income..... continuous income will eventually make a difference.
I purchased this in June of last year and suffice it to say I am impressed. This book is about conservative investment strategies that not only put the odds in your favor for achieving a winning trade but also give you a low-risk in losing. I say low-risk, not no-risk. There is always risk but Lee Finberg's methods reduce that risk substantially. The strategies he outlines will not make you rich over night or even very quickly. Instead they are designed to provide you with an income stream that you can truly depend on. Let's face it, we will all reach an age when we will be too old and frail to work. What I like about these strategies is you can do them even in retirement and it takes very little time. The book outlines everything from how to get in to when to get out. I highly recommend it!
I've read the Monthly Income Machine to learn the parameters Finberg is using for selling credit spreads and then combined that approach with the technical indicators I already use for market direction. After reading the book I then subscribed to his weekly/bi-weekly picks which saves me a GREAT deal of time in locating trades that meet the requirements. The combination of my own indicators with his system and weekly picks gives me confidence in a good reward/risk ratio and I like the creativity of combing the approaches.
