I discovered the Worst Witch books last year, and they are delightful. They follow the adventures of a young British witch, Mildred, who attends an academy for witches. Unlike the Harry Potter series, there is no darkness nor evil creatures to scare young readers. The girls do have to contend with Miss Hardbroom, their strict, unbending (HA) teacher who seems to take special delight in pointing out Mildred's failings. But mainly, the books are full of adventures about the girls and their cats with the occasional bit of magic thrown in. Mildred, though she tries hard, just can't seem to master much and often gets blamed for mischief created by a naughty classmate. My 5 ½ and 4 ½ year old granddaughters are captivated by these books and we have read and re-read them all. They are both eagerly awaiting the 7th book, due out this summer.

My 7 year old daughter and I have read all but the last Worst Witch book and love them. I highly recommend them.
This was a really good book to read. I enjoyed reading The Worst Witch to the Rescue. I reccomend people to read this book. They wouldn't regret reading this book by Jill Murphy. I read this book in one day. I love the book.
My 5 year old daughter loves these books. We just wish there were more! That's about the only criticism we have - this is no JK Rowling, but then you wouldn't read that in Kindergarten.
Really good
This great book by Jill Murphy features Mildred Hubble (who is attempting to change her bad reputation), her two best friends, Ethel, and a tortoise. Mildred is returning once more to Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches, but this time she has prepared a project that will be sure to impress everyone. However, Ethel is involved, meaning things can’t go as planned. As soon as the classes begin Ethel is destroying Mildred’s perfect start to the school term. In the end Mildred winds up saving a tortoise, who is stuck inside a pine tree, in the middle of a rainy night.I really enjoyed the creative illustrations and the trouble that Mildred gets in. I like how in this story Ethel is the one coming unprepared. Meanwhile, Mildred says that her holiday project is, “the best idea I’ve ever had in my whole life!â€As soon as I picked up this comical, action packed book I couldn’t put it down! The “magical mayhem†inside fits perfectly for anyone 7 or older. Even if you haven’t read the previous books in the series you will definitely love the adventure. Overall, I have no doubt that this is a 5 star book by Jill Murphy!Review by Young Mensan Megan M., age 12, Dallas
