5 Stars!!!A.J. Banner has impressed me, once again. The suspense, the twists and turns, this book brings in you and doesn't let you go. The word that I have been using to describe it has been "intense." A.J. is brilliant with how she writes and draws you into the story from the very beginning.Marissa and Nick have just announced their engagement (at a house party) and you would think that everyone would be excited and happy. But people are acting strange. Anna, Nick's young daughter can't stop texting on her phone. Keith, Nick's brother, can't stop hovering over his wife Hedra and following her around like a puppy dog. Lauren, Marissa's once-upon-a-time BFF is flirting with every male in the room, even though her husband Jensen is sitting right at the table.Suddenly it's all about Marissa trying to figure out what happened to Lauren. So many questions, losing trust in everyone, not knowing who to believe. Who would have wanted to hurt her?I'm going to stop there and give nothing more away. I was just pulled into the story from the very beginning and wished that I could have been there to support Marissa and let her know that she could trust someone. It can be quite scary when you feel like you are all alone and meanwhile wondering who hurt your former BFF.You most likely remember that if you ever say to someone "I need to talk to you, but it can wait until tomorrow," that you won't want to wait. Tomorrow may never come. Say what you need to say and don't wait. You may also wonder to yourself "can good people be bad?"This book just seemed to have one mystery after another and that is what hooks you. It is fast-paced, I read it in two sittings (work does get in the way) and I just couldn't wait to get back to reading it!!A.J. Banner does an amazing job at putting you right in the story. The details are phenomenal.I have already recommended this book to other book lovers and I hope that you give it a read. It is well worth it and you won't regret it!!
After Nightfall will keep you guessing late into the night! It’s an absolute page turner at its best. I found myself putting myself in the main characters shoes and really rooting for Marissa as she tries to uncover what happened to her friend Lauren. I loved trying to predict and yet the twists and turns always proving me wrong, that’s when you know you have a wining book on ur hands! I stayed up late into the night, telling myself just one more chapter but every time I put it down I had to pick it back up to find out what happens! This is a must read that will take you on an adventure of a lifetime
I loved, loved, loved After nightfall. A.J. did not let me down with the twists and turns that leave you guessing till the very end! I have a friend just like Lauren so her character really hit a soft spot. Lauren made me think about my friend and put my friendship with her into perspective. Even though you may not like someone's actions, you would never want something bad to happen to them. And then there is poor Anna that is caught in a huge mess, I had a hard time reading her character through most of the book which was driving me crazy BUT at the end Anna's actions finally made sense. To me Marissa was a typical woman, she jumped to conclusions and acted crazy at times, she didnt know who to trust so she had a right to be suspicious of everything and everyone. Throughout the book I thought of turning to the last chapter to find out who killed Lauren because I couldn't figure it out. That's what you call a page Turner and I will continue to read it over and over again!
To be fair, I’m not finished with it. But I won’t finish it. I’m halfway through and it’s the same five sentences over and over. You love your bff Lauren. You hate your bff Lauren. Lauren is gone. What happened to Lauren. Lauren isn’t coming back.It’s too repetitive. Halfway through and one day has elapsed and the story is completely stagnant. It hasn’t moved forward an inch. It’s dreadful and eye roll inducing.Five stars for Twilight Wife and Good Neighbor but this is a painful, ugly, boring and horrible readEdit* UPDATE. I finished it. I laughed my butt off at how BAAAAAAD this book is. I laughed to hard to be disappointed!! It’s just terrible!!! By far in the bottom 5 of books I’ve read. That ending- WTF was she thinking?! SO BAD!!
AJ Banner has a way with words - I've read all of her books up to this point and each one deserves a standing ovation upon closing the last page. This book kept me on my toes. Although I am not one to purposefully try to figure out an ending, I don't think it's possible to if you try! The twists, turns, and new developments keep you guessing until the last words! Look forward to many more books by this author.
If you are looking for a page turner that keeps you spellbound until the bitter end, you have chosen the right book. AJ has a real gift for suspense, weaving characters that are all so shady and suspicious, you have no idea "who done it", and the reveal is pretty surprising. With the Pacific Northwest as her constant, breathtaking backdrop, this story will play like a movie in your head as you read. I really appreciated how she handled some delicate subjects with ease, as well. I tend to read her books in one sitting, as they are nearly impossible to put down. Thanks yet again for a great ride, AJ!
It was a quick read, many twists and turns, the ending however was a real let down. I also felt it was not finished.
I took a chance on a new to me author and I'm so glad I did. Intriguing from the first page, I loved the unique plot and the setting for this mystery. This author crafted the characters so each one had their good traits but their flaws made them all suspects. This well-written story had me guessing until the end. This is definitely one of my favorites for the year.Highly recommend.
