I enjoyed this book and its approach a lot. Things I liked that I haven't found anywhere else:1) Mixing cereals to come up with a different taste. I guess I'm just not creative, but this was a cool idea I've incorporated into my diet.2) Starting out without any restrictions. Every other diet approach I've read recently starts you out with phase one being the most restrictive. This phase one is just the "get off your butt" phase, helpful for me because it gave me time to read the rest of the book while not jumping into a diet AND exercise program right away (I was six weeks postpartum and had been on bedrest for 7 months of my pregnancy, so was still VERY weak).3) He gives a great list of exactly what friuts and veggies help which health conditions. Good reference page.4) Oprah's recipes-- they were easier and more doable than the others in the book. Especially the turkey burgers. A lot of the recipes just took regular recipes and made them healthier, replacing ground beef with ground turkey and refined flour with whole grain flour.5) He helps you take a look at WHY you overeat. I find myself asking "am I hungry? or am I just stuffing my face because I can't find another way to deal with the frustration of my 4-month-old daughter screaming?" It's usually the second, so I stop eating and say a lil' prayer.6) His emphasis on fiber. This is often neglected in a lot of health-conscious circles, but is vital to the correct long-term functioning of the innards.Things I didn't like that much:1) References to the website. It's costly (in my opinion) and I bought the book, for goodness' sake! Why do I need his website?2) A lot of the recipes were too complicated or had ingredients that I'd have to look hard for in the grocery store, or go to a bigger store across town. I'm a new mom. Don't have time to find amarynth or jicama and figure out how to cook them.3) There is no modification for breastfeeding or pregnant women, even on the website. In fact, when I tried to sign up on the website and clicked on "breastfeeding," it simply kicked me off, saying "this diet has no modifications for breastfeeding women." So I just took his calorie guidelines in the book and have added about 250 calories to my daily intake.Overall, it's a great reference to have, and I'm glad he's doing what he's doing. It will help make people more aware of healthy eating, and it will increase the market for more creative foods with healthy ingredients. I've never seen so many different types of hummus at the supermarket as I do nowadays!

This book is so well written and very easy to read. The information is not to technical, but is giving the reader a chance to make a lifestyle change that anyone could manage to implement with successful results. The recipes at the end of the book are plentiful and truly amazing. It is refreshing to see someone who approaches the "diet" concept with fun and delicious recipes that will satisfy your hunger cravings and help you learn the best way to nourish your body. I recommend buying the book. I purchased the book for my Kindle and now need to get all the fabulous recipes, so will buy it as a gift and copy the recipes for my collection.

This book tells you how to change your lifestyle and if followed you will lose weight. But the diet it described is very close to the diet I've had for years. No weight loss obviously. And no, I'm not one of those people who is already skinny. I'd recommend this book for people who live an unhealthy lifestyle. This book does help you gradually transition yourself to a healthy lifestyle. I would not recommend to someone who already has a healthy lifestyle but I somehow stuck being over weight. Btw the recipes in the book are disgusting.

Can't get a healthier diet book anywhere! Only complaint: for those of us who are in our 50's, the calorie recommendation is a bit too high to see results that would encourage the person to stick with it. Something closer to 1200-1300 is more realistic for a loss of 1 lb a week, rather than 1500/ day. Lots of good tips, though. I have had better results with the "Metabolic Effect" book and logging everything in livestrong.com. I have followed it for 3 months and have lost a steady 1 lb a week. I will probably use the maintenance ideas when I get to my goal weight.

Based on reviews, I guess I had high expectations and was a bit diappointed. I was really hoping for more recipes and snacks that I could use. Not many, if any clicked for me. He did have some good tips, most of which I have read before. It is mostly common sense, such as eat less prepared foods for less sodium, Eat out less, so you know what is going into your mouth....I love Bob when he is on Oprah, but I did not love his book. I personally just didn't get much from it.On another note, I tried signing up for his web-site diet (for a hefty fee), but it has some glitches. It put almost 1,000 calories over what I can eat a day and not gain. It is based on exercise... Once it is set, you can not change it. You are not given your daily diet until that very day, and that does not give you time to buy the required ingredients ahead... It was a trial offer, and they are very good about refunding your money, though.
