I’m a life-long runner who is often injured. I live in Texas, don’t make a ton of money as a school teacher, and running keeps me sane. I follow Dr. Metzl through his Inside the Doctor’s Office series on Runner’s World so when I saw this new book I got it right away. It came yesterday and I’m half way through already. What I wasn’t prepared for was the very cool ability to use my smart phone for a virtual consultation on my running questions that supplement the text. Without a doubt this is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen in a book, and I look at books all day long at my job! If you’re a runner I think this book will just knock your socks off with the great illustrations, quality paper (it feels significant when you hold it), and the revolutionary use of augmented reality. Plus, to be honest, it costs way less than my co-pay and the information is more specific for runners. Dr. Metzl is one of us so he doesn’t think we’re insane. I’d highly recommend this book if you run, augmented reality is the future!

Good comprehensive book with a good premise and material, however the videos don't work. The only time I got the Blippar app to work was at the beginning of the book, in the intro. Can't get it to work anywhere else - huge waste of time, I've tried many times. I work with computers and software on a daily basis, and I have a recent smart phone (Galaxy S9) so I know it's not a problem with the hardware.Why not just give us YouTube links that work? Also, I'd much prefer seeing the videos on a larger screen than my phone in any case. I appreciate the effort to pair videos with the book, but this was really disappointing and so far a fail.

Just finished the book, if you are a running this is the book for you, bought one for my daughter, Dr. Metzl covers everything to can imagine, it helped me with running form, and strengthen my lower body, which made me enjoy running even more than I did, does cover all types of injuries', and numerous other topics, how to prepare for a 5K, 10K, 1/2 marathon, etc; etc; one of my running partners also just picked up the book.Great, great book.

I am re reading this book - so much great information - very comprehensive. I love the audio visual parts-a great way to back up the text. The doctor explains clearly; the language is not too technical. He has a great attitude in that he is positive, understanding and flexible. He is a proponent of modifications - thereby making you feel more comfortable about your abilities. I can't wait to read this book again. I have already taken his advice about shortening my stride, using a foam roller.

I recommend this book, which introduced me to strength training. I've been worried about my knees, during running and skiing, and I hope these exercises prevent injury long term. It's great that you really do see an improvement from one week to the next. Don't get discouraged if you feel behind the first time you do the program. It gets easier every time you do it! I'm not sure why traditional sit-ups are included. I thought they had fallen out of favor. Otherwise, this has been a great learning experience. Thank you!

If you have ever had a niggling sensation or a pain and wondered what it could be, you need to get this book. Dr. Metzl give us a crash course in running anatomy and movement patterns, enabling a self-diagnosis and subsequent treatment (or prevention). The knowledge will prove valuable when you DO go see a pro, too. Do the workouts, do the stretching and foam rolling, do the miles and the duration, and keep well while doing so.

This book has some solid tips and good insight into some key running injuries. I don't really know what I was expecting when I got this book because I already am a dedicated runner with a good stride and a solid understanding of my body. Didn't really do much for me but I will refer to it if I get a certain injury I don't know how to deal with.

If we just run without watching form and strength, our bodies are not mechanically balanced. This book gives practical approach to get strength training and avoid injury.If you are already injured it would help you to understand what you need to do to help your balance and overloads in muscles, tendons, bones.I enjoyed having the book on kindle because it has videos that you can watch with the routines and explanations.The only thing I didn't like was the recommendation on eating dairy products as the main source of calcium, you could have collard greens, broccoli, kale, salmon, beans, tofu, etc.
