What a beautifully written book this is! I finished reading it just moments ago and I'm still digesting the fact that the story is over. This book was filled with warmth, hope, love and caring. It taught us about the loggerheads and how we actually do help those in need. I had no idea this was going on and am very grateful for it. I love turtles. I love life. To spend one's time helping the nests/eggs is a gift to all. When children do this with such love and concern, it's incredible.It's a story about a small community that takes care of each other. As they say, it takes a village to raise a child. This is one such example."Swimming Lessons" is all about taking chances, reaching for your dreams, helping others and finding love where you least expect it.Pick up a copy and learn about the loggerheads!
If you read the Beach House and were sad when it ended, this is just what you were hoping for. With a slight shift in time, this story picks up right behind its predecessor. I was delighted to discover how the characters' lives went on and developed after the original owner of the beach house passed away. I like long books, and a good sequel is just about as good as it gets for me. I will definitely go on to read more of these stories. Yes, as I have seen in some other reviews, this author has a few issues with her writing, but (in my mind) the story line far outweighs any little grammatical bumps in the road you might discover.
I love every book I've read by Mary Alice Monroe. I am always thrilled to learn so much about the topic. The details of loggerhead turtles is astounding. I find myself drawn to preservation of the vulnerable species.And in every story, I find myself living with the women, their joys and heartaches are universal and so often mirror my own.
Great story of a small group of women. Or should I say best friends,support group and more importantly family. The love that grew among these women from a love of Loggerhead turtles. I live in Mexico most of the year. I see the giant turtles come in at night lay their eggs and return to the sea. The volunteers who always come and rescue the eggs to go the aquarium, cared for until time for release back to the ocean. Besides a beautiful 2 novel story of these women I learned so much about these special giant creatures of the ocean. These 2 novels will warm your heart.
The story continues at The beach house as Toy begins to raise her daughter, while Miss Lovie's daughter and Brett start to have their own family. The characters, Flo, Emmi, Cara, Brett and Toy are still the Turtle team, their stories intertwine weaving a lovely setting for Love, families, ambition. Each day is more and more difficult to put the book down loving the way Alice Monroe keeps you wanting to hear more and more. And all while telling the migration and nesting habits of the Loggerhead Turtles on Southern shores.
I loved this book! Such a wonderful story of people and turtles.It was so good to have so many from the book before this back, Toy, Cara, Brett, etc etc. I felt close to the people, like they were my friends. I learned a lot about turtles from this book esp, but also from the previous book. I thank Mary Alice for that, all so interesting! Now, I want to learn more. This story stands alone, but it does help to have read the previous one. I want to read Beach House Memories, IF I find it less expensive then it now is.
Great book and love all the characters there's just one big glaring issue for me. The author clearly did her research on the turtles and the wildlife aspects. However she chose to do zero research on IVF she could have found an IVF mom and had a 15 minute chat and done a better job. All the terminology and all the references are so wrong it's irritating. It's so nice to have infertility be spotlighted anywhere but for the love of Pete, do your due diligence and do us warrior mamas justice.
Not at all literature. Maybe what you'd call "beach reading," but it's more than that. Follows on the first book in the series and further fleshes out the Isle of Palms stories and those of the Loggerhead Turtles fighting to nest their babies there. The love story part is especially sweet. and you do actually care for the characters. Just the kind of read I needed when I found it. The first chapter appeared in the first book, just at the time I didn't want it to end, so I quickly purchased this one and kept on reading the night away.
